Clean dyson soft roller

Need to clean the two brush bars inside the Dyson Soft Roller? Here’s a simple method for cleaning the brush bars and restoring any lost performance due to dirt and other debris.

The Dyson Soft Roller floorhead is a useful tool for cleaning hard floors. In fact, it’s one of the reasons we rate the Dyson V10 Absolute so highly for cleaning around the home.

However, you need to regularly clean the brush bars to make sure that the cleaner head remains effective. This is particularly important if the brushes become clogged with dirt, hair, or other debris.

As you probably know, this cleaner head has two soft brush bars. Both of these bars need to be cleaned to maintain the vacuum’s performance. Fortunately, this is a straightforward process that only takes a few minutes.

In this article, we’ll show you how to disassemble this cleaner head and wash the two rollers. We’ll also discuss some extra tips for keeping your Dyson V10 in top condition.

Note: The process in this article is for the Soft Roller floorhead that comes with the Dyson V10 Absolute. The instructions should be similar for all Soft Roller cleaner heads though.

Step 1: Remove The Brushes

Start by removing the Soft Roller from your Dyson V10. Never try to clean a Dyson cordless cleaner head when it’s still attached to the vacuum. You also shouldn’t clean the brush bars while they are still inside the Soft Roller.

The Soft Roller has two brushes. There’s a larger roller at the front of the cleaner head, along with a smaller brush at the back. Both need to be removed and washed.

Here’s how to remove the brushes:

  1. Turn the Soft Roller upside-down.
  2. Remove the end cap by twisting the lock with a coin until it clicks.
  3. Slide out the larger brush bar and take the end cap off the end (you shouldn’t wash the end cap).
  4. Remove the smaller bar by lifting it away from the floorhead.

Step 2: Wash Both Brushes

Now that both of the brush bars have been removed, the next step is to wash off any debris or dirt that’s become caught in the fibres.

Fortunately, this is a quick and simple process. Simply run the brush bars under a cold tap while gently massaging out dirt and other debris.

The key here is to be as gentle as possible. It’s important not to damage the brush bar fibres, as this could affect the cleaning performance.

Mistakes to Avoid When Cleaning The Soft Roller

There are a few ways you can go wrong when cleaning the Soft Roller brush bars. Here are some mistakes to avoid:

  • Use cold water rather than hot.
  • Never use cleaning products or detergents.
  • Never put the brush bars in a washing machine.
  • Don’t rub the brush bars too vigorously.

Step 3: Allow Both Brush Bars To Dry

It’s essential that both brush bars are completely dry before you refit them into the machine.

Any moisture left on the brush bars could get sucked into the vacuum, leading to serious damage to the motor. A damp brush bar will also attract dirt and may be the perfect environment for mould.

The best way to dry the brush bars is to leave them standing upright for at least 24 hours. Even after this time, double-check that they are completely dry.

Step 4: Refit The Brush Bars

Once the brush bars are completely dry, you can re-insert them into the cleaner head.

Start by placing the smaller brush bar back into position. You’ll need to put the round end into position first, then push the other end (gently) until you hear a click.

To refit the larger brush bar, attach the end cap and slide it back into position. When it’s correctly fitted, you should be able to rotate the end cap back into the locked setting.

Congratulations! You just cleaned the Dyson V10 Soft Roller brush bars and your vacuum is ready to be used again.
