Shark vacuum cleaners have exploded in popularity in the US - but are often overlooked in the UK. This is a shame, as the company produces a range of innovative vacs at reasonable prices. Keep reading for our top Shark vacuum reviews.

The Shark vacuum cleaner brand, which is developed by a company called Euro-Pro, has grown in popularity in recent years. While Shark hasn't received the brand recognition of Dyson, Vax or other popular brands, they still produce some excellent vacuums.

The company manufactures a range of upright and stick vacuum cleaners. Their Rocket Stick range is a popular option for people who want the convenience of a stick without the drawbacks of a cordless. They also have a range of Lift-Away uprights and the popular Rotator series.

In this article, we've listed our favourite Shark vacuum cleaner reviews. Each of the models on this list provides great value, excellent cleaning performance and has been well received by buyers. These aren't the only Shark vacuums that are worth buying - but we believe they are the cream of the crop.

Which Are the Best Shark Vacuums?

1. Shark Lift Away NV681UK

SHARK Lift Away NV680UK

One of the best Shark vacuum cleaners is the Powered Lift Away NV681UK. It's an upright bagless vacuum with a stylish design, excellent filtration and great suction power.

The most important feature of the NV681UK is its lift-out design. Shark aren't the only company to do this (Vax also have lift-out uprights), but the design makes it easy to clean under furniture using the fully powered floor nozzle. It's also more convenient for cleaning stairs than typical uprights.

According to Shark, the NV681UK is able to prevent up to 99.9% of allergens escaping into the air due to its combination of foam filter, HEPA filter and "seal" technology. This makes it a decent choice for people with mild allergies (people with severe allergies should probably choose a bagged vac).

Other features include LED headlights, 8 metre power cord, and 1.1 litre dust capacity. It's also great on both carpets and floorboards - although a pet turbo tool isn't included.

There are a few drawbacks to this model though. Firstly, it can struggle on laminate flooring - especially with small particles. The dust bin is also small for an upright and tricky to empty without spilling dust everywhere.

If you're looking for a mid-range upright that's easy to manoeuvre around the home, however, the Shark NV681UK is an excellent option. We don't recommend it for pet hair or laminate floors, but for everything else it provides great value.

Key Features:

  • Versatile powered lift-out design makes it easy to clean both high and low spots
  • LED headlights that illuminate dust
  • Decent filtration for allergy sufferers

Specification:

  • Weight: 6.3kg
  • Power: 750W
  • Price Range: £££
  • Dust Capacity: 1.1 litre
  • Filter: Washable & HEPA

2. Shark DuoClean IF200UKT True Pet

Shark IF200UKT

If you're looking for a Shark cordless vacuum cleaner, the IF200UKT is an excellent choice - especially if you have pets.

The stand-out feature of the IF200UKT is Shark's DuoClean floor head. In short, the head contains two different brushrolls, which combine to remove both large debris and smaller particles. Many people have also found the DuoClean technology helps remove more pet hair.

Aside from a DuoClean head, the IF200UKT is built with Shark's "Flexology" technology. This is a joint in the middle of the stick, allowing you to clean under furniture more conveniently.

Like most Shark vacuums, the IF200UKT comes with a range of other features. These include a handheld mode (similar to the Dyson V8 or V10), accessory kit and a relatively lightweight design. Pet owners will also enjoy the motorised tool for cleaning upholstery and stairs.

It's not a perfect cordless vacuum though. With a 22-minute run-time, it lags behind models from Dyson and Gtech - and the battery life drops even further when you use maximum power mode. Unlike the Dyson V series, however, there's the option of buying a second battery for double the run-time.

We also don't think it quite matches the carpet cleaning standards of the Dyson V8 or V10. It provides decent carpet pickup - and excels on hard floors - but it can struggle with thick fibres.

Even so, the DuoClean IF200UKT is an excellent vacuum cleaner and one of the best cordless vacs for pet hair. It's great for cleaning hard floors, makes quick work of dog and cat hair, and is convenient to use around the home.

Note: If you don't have pets, the cheaper IF200UK is the same vacuum but without the pet hair tool.

Key Features:

  • Cordless vacuum with Shark's DuoClean floor head
  • Great for pet hair (which cordless models often struggle with)
  • "Flexology" design to make it easier to clean under furniture

Specification:

  • Weight: 4kg
  • Power: Cordless
  • Price Range: £££
  • Dust Capacity: 0.33 litres
  • Filter: Washable Foam & Felt

3. Shark Powered Lift-Away TruePet NV681UKT

Shark NV681UKT

If you like the look of the Shark NV681UK but are worried about its performance with pet hair, the NV681UKT could be the perfect alternative. Despite the similar name, it has a few extra features that make it an excellent choice for homes with pets.

The first thing to note about the NV681UKT is that it's built with Shark's "Powered Lift-Away" design. This allows you to lift out the cylinder without sacrificing motorised brush bar power, which is great for cleaning stairs or other awkward areas.

But what makes this model ideal for pets? Firstly, it comes with a HEPA filter instead of just the sponge filter found on cheaper vacs. This is much more effective at removing small allergens such as pet dander. It also comes with a turbo brush for getting rid of pet hair on stairs or carpets (this isn't included with the NV681UK).

Our biggest complaint about the NV681UKT is that it has a small dust capacity considering the price. This means you'll need to empty it more often than other uprights. We also wish it was a bit better on hard floors (it doesn't come with a hard floor nozzle), although it's great on carpets.

If you're looking for a Shark pet vacuum, the NV681UKT is probably your best bet. It's not cheap, but is great for getting rid of pet hair and can filter most dander before it's released into the air.

Key Features:

  • Turbo tool for removing pet hair on upholstery and stairs.
  • Powered lift-away design for cleaning stairs and other awkward areas
  • Excellent filtration due to the HEPA filter

Specification:

  • Weight: 6.3kg
  • Power: 750W
  • Price Range: ££££
  • Dust Capacity: 1.1 litre
  • Filter: Sponge & HEPA

4. Shark DuoClean True Pet HV390UKT

Shark DuoClean HV390UKT

Another excellent Shark pet vacuum cleaner is the DuoClean HV390UKT. Shark calls it a "Handstick" vacuum, as it can convert between stick and handheld modes for more versatile cleaning. It also comes with a mini turbo tool, for removing pet hair, and a dual-brush floorhead that excels at both small and large debris.

Unlike the other vacuums on this list, the HV390UKT is primarily a stick upright vacuum. This provides a middle ground between a cordless and upright, as its lightweight yet isn't constrained by battery life. It has a small one litre capacity (0.5 litre max fill), yet is one of the most energy efficient vacuums on the market with a power rating of 450W.

The HV390UKT's biggest strength is its versatility. For pet owners, the vacuum comes with a miniature turbo tool that's great for upholstery. It's also effective on carpets and comes with both a dusting brush and crevice tool.

An additional feature is the HV390UKT's "Flexology" design. This is effectively a joint in the middle of the stick, which is great for cleaning under furniture.

A drawback of the stick design is that it's more difficult to clean higher locations. This is partly solved by the handheld mode, although you don't get the extra reach of a traditional hose. It can also be quite messy to empty.

Despite these minor issues, the Shark DuoClean True Pet is a great choice for a pet vacuum if you don't want a full-size upright. While it has a small capacity, its versatile array of attachments and relatively lightweight design are why we think it's the best Shark stick vacuum.

Key Features:

  • Turbo tool for removing pet hair
  • Great on hard floors
  • Stick design means it's lighter than other Shark vacuums

Specification:

  • Weight: 4.8kg
  • Power: 450W
  • Price Range: ££
  • Dust Capacity: 1 litre (0.5 max fill)
  • Filter: Foam & HEPA

Summary

Shark vacuums are definitely worth considering as an alternative to vacuum brands like Dyson and Vax. Their models tend to be reasonably priced and provide strong suction power. Many also have innovative features such as the company's Lift-Out design and Swivel Steering.

Listed above are our top four Shark vacuum cleaner reviews. While each model provides great value, it's important to buy the model that most closely matches your requirements. If we had to pick our top model though, it would be the Shark Powered Lift-Away True Pet NV681UKT.
