Where are hoover vacuums made

Want to know where a Hoover vacuum is manufactured before buying it? We’ve researched the Hoover company to find out where they build their vacuums and whether any of their products are made in the UK.

Hoover has been producing floor care products for over 100 years. The company is one of the most recognisable vacuum brands in the UK. In fact, many people still refer to vacuum cleaners as “hoovers”!

Where are Hoover vacuum cleaners made though? And does the company produce any of its products in the UK? Keep reading to find out.

Where Are Hoover Vacuum Cleaners Made?

The quick answer is that Hoover manufactures most of its vacuum cleaners in China.

As an example, we looked at the box for the Hoover H-Handy 700, which we recently reviewed. The box states that the vacuum was made in P.R.C – People’s Republic of China.

However, things are a bit more complicated than this, as there is often confusion about where Hoover vacuums are actually built. This isn’t helped by Hoover themselves being reluctant to admit where their manufacturing plants are located.

As far as we can tell, Hoover products are designed and engineered in the USA. However, assembly for most (if not all) of their vacuums takes place in China.

For most people, this means that Hoover vacuums are made in China. Hoover doesn’t seem to feel this is the case though, as they still claim that their products are American-made.

Note: Some Hoover products are still labelled as “Made In The USA”. However, this Hoover logo also includes the caveat “With Globally Sourced Components”. It’s unclear where these components are sourced or how much of the product is actually built in the USA.

Are Any Hoover Products Made In The UK?

At the time of writing, no Hoover products are manufactured in the United Kingdom. Hoover produced laundry products, such as washing machines, in Wales until 2009, but discontinued manufacturing at this plant due to cost problems.

The company still maintains some distribution centres in the UK though.

Where Is Hoover’s Main Headquarters?

Hoover’s current headquarters are in Charlotte, North Carolina. It also has its UK headquarters in Warrington, along with various smaller facilities across the country.

What Is The History Of Hoover?

Hoover was originally founded in Ohio in 1908, meaning that the company is over 110 years old. Its founder was called William Henry Hoover.

The company established a UK-registered company around ten years later. It quickly become a major brand in the UK vacuum market, although the company’s popularity has decreased over time compared with Dyson, Shark, and other brands.

Hoover North America was originally owned by a company called Maytag. However, it was sold to Whirlpool, then to the Hong Kong company Techtronic Industries in 2007. Hoover International was bought by the Italian company Candy in 1995, then by the Chinese company Haier in 2019.

Which Vacuums Does Hoover Produce?

Hoover manufactures a wide range of vacuum cleaners. These include upright, handheld, cylinder, and cordless models, so there is something for everyone.

Most Hoover vacuums are at the affordable end of the price scale. So, if you’re looking for a vacuum that provides great value, then a Hoover model could be a good choice.

Frequently Asked Questions

There was a time during the early 20th century when Hoover vacuum cleaners were the dominant brand in the UK. Over time, this meant people began to refer to vacuum cleaners as simply “hoovers.” The name has stuck, even though Hoover is far from the dominant force that it once was.

It’s debatable whether this confusion between the terms “hoover” and vacuum cleaner has helped Hoover. While having customers refer to your brand name as the definition of a product is often a good thing, searching for “Hoover” online may bring up competing brands.

This is a difficult question to answer, as Hoover produces a huge range of vacuum cleaners. We’ve reviewed some excellent Hoover models, along with a few that we don’t recommend. So, read our in-depth reviews of a specific vacuum to learn more about the model.

Summary

Despite being an American company, Hoover remains one of the most well-known vacuum brands in the UK. However, Hoover doesn’t manufacture any of its products in the UK anymore.

Instead, it appears that most of its production has moved to China. Some assembly of specific products seems to still take place in the USA, but it’s unclear exactly which components are manufactured in America and which are built internationally.
