Gtech has quickly become one of the most recognisable vacuum brands in the UK. But where are Gtech vacuum cleaners made? And is the company still based in the UK? Keep reading to find out.
Gtech is a British company based in Worcestershire, UK. However, their products are manufactured in China, before being shipped around the world.
Let’s take a closer look at Gtech’s manufacturing location, where the company’s headquarters are located, and its range of products.
Where Are Gtech Vacuums Made?
At the time of writing, Gtech still manufactures all of its products in China. This includes the popular Gtech AirRam and Multi series, along with Gtech’s carpet sweepers and other home appliances.
Once built, Gtech products are transported to the UK in shipping containers. While Gtech has received criticism for not manufacturing in the UK, the truth is that nearly all vacuum brands manufacture their products in Asia (with a few notable exceptions).
A Future Gtech Product Manufactured In The UK?
In 2019, Gtech announced they would start manufacturing one (or more) of their products in the UK. However, we couldn’t find any information about this shift in their manufacturing location when writing this article.
Even so, the owner of Gtech has consistently stated his aim to bring some of their manufacturing to the UK, so this is certainly a possibility in the future.
Where is Gtech’s Headquarters?
Gtech’s headquarters are located in Worcester. The building, known as the Gtech Hub, contains all major departments, such as marketing, engineering, and customer services.
The company was founded by Nick Grey, who is currently the managing director and owner. Grey was previously an employee of Vax, but started developing Gtech’s first product (the SW01 cordless sweeper) from his own home in the early 2000s.
After the success of the SW01, Gtech released the original AirRam in 2012. This model was designed in a small office, but Gtech moved to its current location in 2016. The company website states that Nick Grey is still involved in product design, although the company is now much larger and produces a range of home products.
Which Vacuum Cleaners Do Gtech Manufacture?
While Gtech’s first product was a carpet sweeper, the company is best known for its range of cordless vacuum cleaners.
Gtech cordless vacuum cleaners are typically cheaper than models from premium brands, such as Dyson, Miele, and Tineco. Instead of competing at the higher end of the market, models such as the AirRam and Multi are designed to be simple to use, affordable, and lightweight.
Some of Gtech’s most popular models include:
- Gtech AirRam Series. The AirRam catapulted Gtech into the UK spotlight, as it’s an excellent cordless vacuum cleaner for both hard floors and carpet. Since the original, Gtech has released the upgraded AirRam Mk2, along with variations such as the AirRam Platinum and K9.
- Gtech Multi Handheld Series. The Gtech Multi Mk2 has quickly become one of Gtech’s most popular products. It’s a powerful handheld cordless vacuum that’s lightweight and easy to use.
- Gtech Pro Stick Vacuum Series. Gtech currently produces one stick vacuum called the Pro 2. This is a cordless model with a similar design to the Dyson V series, although it’s available for a much cheaper price. There’s also a Pro 2 K9 version.
- Gtech ProLite Series. The Gtech ProLite is a lighter alternative to the Multi. It weighs less than 1kg, making it perfect for quick cleanups. It’s also a bagged model, which is unusual for a cordless vacuum. The upside of a bag is improved hygiene and fewer allergens escaping into the air.
- Gtech Carpet Sweepers. Gtech still produces two carpet sweepers – the SW02 Advanced Sweeper and SW22 Lithium Sweeper. These are designed to be a lightweight, cheap, and energy-efficient alternative to vacuum cleaners.
Do Gtech Make Any Other Products?
Aside from vacuum cleaners, Gtech manufacturers a range of other products. These include drills, multi-tools, work lights, cordless lawnmowers, cordless hedge trimmers, and cordless grass trimmers.
Gtech even makes a patio heater and massage bed, with the product range expanding each year. It’s always interesting to keep an eye on what Gtech decides to make next!
Are Any Vacuum Cleaners Manufactured In The UK?
Unfortunately, the vast majority of vacuum cleaners are no longer made in the UK – even for companies that are based here.
In fact, Numatic is the only major appliance company that still manufactures its vacuum cleaners in the UK. The Henry “family” of vacuum cleaners are all built in a factory in Chard (Somerset), including models like Hetty, James and Henry Xtra.
Most other vacuum brands manufacture their products in Asia. Dyson, for example, has a headquarters in Singapore and manufactures most of its vacuums in Malaysia. Vax and Morphy Richards both manufacture their vacuums in China. Hoover also builds many of its vacuums in China.
There are still some vacuum companies that manufacture in Europe though. Miele, for example, builds many of its products in Europe – although some of the “Compact” vacuum models are now produced in China. SEBO and Vorwerk also manufacture at least some of their vacuum cleaners in Germany.
Summary
Gtech is a popular vacuum cleaner brand with headquarters in the UK. All of its products are currently manufactured in China, although the company have stated their intent to move at least some of its manufacturing back to the UK.
